New Resource: Talking Points You Can Use to Help Reauthorize the Rehabilitation Act and Strengthen Independent Living

The Rehabilitation Act has not been reauthorized for 15 years. The lack of congressional action has resulted in CILs and SILCs continuing to operate in an outdated, inadequate bureaucracy. People with disabilities expect to see jobs and progress in the new economic recovery.

Congress must focus on what can be accomplished right now and reauthorize the Rehabilitation Act without any further delay.

NCIL strongly encourages the House and the Senate to work together to reauthorize the Rehabilitation Act. If that means avoiding the pitfalls of reauthorizing all of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) by reauthorizing the Rehabilitation Act independently, then we encourage it.

NCIL members should take action by reviewing and becoming comfortable with our new Talking Points on Reauthorization of the Rehabilitation Act, which were developed by NCIL’s Rehab act Subcommittee. Then, contact your legislators and let them know what the Rehabilitation Act means to us – Independent Living is a right we will fight for!
