Assistant Secretary Greenlee to Speak at NCIL’s 2014 Annual Conference on Independent Living

Kathy Greenlee, Assistant Secretary for Aging and Administrator for the Administration for Community Living (ACL), will deliver the Closing Plenary at NCIL’s 2014 Annual Conference on Independent Living on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which is poised to pass the Senate and House, will move Independent Living from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) to the Administration for Community Living (ACL).

Kathy GreenleeGreenlee is expected to deliver a speech highlighting her vision of the future of America’s Independent Living Program at our new home at ACL.

Assistant Secretary Greenlee serves in the dual roles of Administrator of ACL and Assistant Secretary for Aging. We know NCIL members will want to hear her thoughts on this very important issue.

More Information:

  • ACL brings the Administration on Aging, the Office on Disability, and the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities together into a single entity.
  • ACL is charged with working with states, tribes, community providers, universities, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and families to help seniors and people with disabilities live in their homes and fully participate in their communities.
  • Ms. Greenlee was appointed by President Obama as Assistant Secretary for Aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and confirmed by the Senate in June 2009.
  • WIOA will also bring Independent Living, the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), and the Assistive Technology Federal Grant Program into ACL.
